3 Food Safety Tips For Brewing Mushroom Tea

  1. Brew only enough tea that you reasonably expect to consume within 3-5 days. Discard brewed tea remaining after 5 days. One teaspoon makes one ~6oz cup of tea.

  2. Our Herbal Mushroom Teas should be brewed using water as close to the boiling point as possible (212°F). A gentle simmer works well and ingredients should steep for 60 min. We use timers to help keep track of the process. If you’re making a smaller batch (1-2 cups) any insulated cup with a lid will work wonders to retain heat!

  3. To protect tea flavor and to avoid bacterial contamination and growth, CLEAN and SANITIZE your tea brewing and storage equipment at least once a day as follows:

    • Completely disassemble any tea making supplies including; dispensing spigots, hoses, diffuser baskets, tea pots, storage reservoirs (removing gaskets, "O" rings, etc.) and rinse in warm water along with other brewing and storage utensils (e.g., pitchers, spoons, brew baskets, tea trays etc.)

    • Wash using a suitable detergent, in hot water at 110°F-120°F. Be sure to remove any encrusted soil deposits with a brush or cleaning pad, if needed.

    • Rinse thoroughly with clear warm water.

    • Sanitize by immersing parts for at least 1 min. in hot water at 170°F or by immersing for at least 5 mins. in a sanitizing solution.
